((A song-fic (story with lyrics of a song) showing a couple and their journey to an end...))
Falling for You
~Emily~
Oh my gosh, there he is. By his locker. I try not to stare as I put in the combination to my own, half-way down the hall. Is it 17-3-52? Or 3-17-52? Neither. Stupid memory, always migrating sound whenever I see him.
And he thinks I'm his friend. How pathetic.
I don’t know but
I think I maybe
Fallin’ for you
Dropping so quickly
Maybe I should
Keep this to myself
Waiting ’til I
Know you better
A piece of paper falls out when I finally get my locker open. I slowly pick it up and unfold it. A flier for the dance. My heart flutters as I turn it over. Then I sigh. Its from Casey, my best friend who knows I like him. She has written in her cute handwritting:
Ask him already!!
I crumple it up and shove it in with the rest of the papers I've thrown in there. I'm waiting for him to ask me, not the other way around, and I don't need her help.
"Hey, Emily!"
I turn at a normal pace, and look to see him face. Wow... "Hi, Wyatt. What's up?" I reply. Its not as hard as it seems, since I talk to him nearly every day.
I am trying
Not to tell you
But I want to
I’m scared of what you’ll say
So I’m hiding what I’m feeling
But I’m tired of
Holding this inside my head
"You know the dance tonight?" I turn back to my locker to avoid him seeing the hopeful look on my face.
"Yeah."
"Well, I wanted to know if maybe-" he starts, but is cut off when some guy I don't even know runs up beside me
"EMILY, WILL YOU GO TO THE DANCE WITH ME?!?!?!" he shouted, quieting the whole hall. Except Casey's giggles.
I pause with one book inside my locker and look up at the kid. Yes, kid, a 6th grader to my 8th. "Um, I think you should be downstairs. You know, lunch or something." He looks up at me with sad but hopeful eyes. That must be what I look like.
As he saunters off and everyone starts talking about again, I breathe out and turn to Wyatt. He's smiling. "As I was saying," he says, looking down the hall to see if anyone else was going to pop out of nowhere. "Do you want to go to the dance together?"
I smile shyly and ask, "As a date or just friends?"
He smiles broader as he leans down and whispers, "Well preferrably a date, but I'll leave that up to you."
I’ve been spending all my time
Just thinking about ya
I don’t know what to do
I think I’m fallin’ for you
I’ve been waiting all my life
and now I found ya
I don’t know what to do
I think I’m fallin’ for you
I’m fallin’ for you
LATER THAT WEEK
I gaze at myself in the mirror, loving the dress I had chose to wear tonight. It was semi-formal, but better to go all out then be the slacker.
Casey twirls up beside me, her dress arching gracefully. "Wow, we look amazing!" she squeals, and throws her arms around me. I hug her back just as happily, because we do - we look absolutely perfect. It wasn't prom material fancy, but it also wasn't normal dance wear. Very semi.
The doorbell rings. We live in a very small town, so everyone just walks wherever they need to go. We know our dates are here -Casey is going with Wyatt's best friend, who she really likes. She's already dancing out my bedroom room. I take one last look at myself in the mirror, before following her.
My mom is opening the door and smiling at them. I can tell she's surprised when Wyatt holds out his hand and I take it. I smile as I take in his plain green shirt and dark jeans. Yin and Yang, I suppose.
The four of us leave after pictures and walk to the school in silence. The gym looks fantastic. I grin and Wyatt pulls me out onto the dance floor.
As I’m standing here
And you hold my hand
Pull me towards you
And we start to dance
All around us
I see nobody
Here in silence
It’s just you and me
Just like in all those sappy movies, he slowly pulls us together. We dance very smoothly, unlike Casey, whose spinning around as if she were on Dancing With The Stars. Which she probably will be one day.
But I only notice that in the back of my mind. I don't see anyone else. He kicks it up a little, twirling me but never letting me get too far away from him. When the song ends, I step away, regretful, until he pulls me back to him. "Where are you going?"
"Nowhere," I breathe. "I've already falling for you."
Ooohhh
Oh no no
Oooooohhh
Oh I’m fallin’ for you
